You don’t need to hire an agency to know what’s wrong with your website. With the right free tools and a structured approach, you can identify your biggest problems in under an hour and know exactly what to fix first.
Check Google Search Console (10 mins): Search Console is a free Google tool that shows you exactly how your site performs in search results. Log in and check the Coverage report for indexing errors, the Core Web Vitals report for speed issues, and the Security Issues report for any signs of compromise.
Run a Speed Test (5 mins): Go to pagespeed.web.dev and test your homepage and key service pages. Record your mobile and desktop scores. Anything below 50 on mobile needs urgent attention.
Check for Broken Links (10 mins): Use brokenlinkcheck.com to scan your entire site for broken links and 404 errors. These hurt both your user experience and your search engine rankings. Fix every one you find.
Review Your SEO Basics (15 mins): Visit each of your main pages and check: Does each page have a unique title tag with a relevant keyword? Is there a compelling meta description? Does the page have one clear H1 heading? These basics are missing on most business websites.
Assess Your Content and CTAs (10 mins): Read through each main page as a first-time visitor. Is the content clear and helpful? Does every page tell the visitor what to do next with a strong call-to-action? Is there social proof, testimonials, case studies, or reviews?
Test the Mobile Experience (10 mins): Open your website on your phone and navigate through it as a real customer would. Note anything that’s hard to tap, hard to read, or doesn’t display properly.
Once your audit is complete, prioritize fixes in this order: security issues first, then speed, then broken links and SEO basics, then content and conversion improvements.
